Second confirmed case of rabid raccoon in Colrain


COLRAIN, Mass. (WWLP) – A raccoon discovered on in a resident’s driveway in Colrain has examined constructive for rabies.

In line with Franklin County Regional Animal Management Officer Kyle Dragon, on January 7, animal management was referred to as to the 100 block of Wilson Hill Highway because of a disoriented raccoon within the driveway.

Dragon stated the resident suggested the officers the raccoon was non-reactive to his cat and the house owner. Due to this habits, the raccoon was collected and submitted to the Massachusetts State Laboratory.

On January 10, Franklin County Regional Animal Management was notified the raccoon examined constructive for rabies.

That is the second confirmed case of rabies in a raccoon on Wilson Hill Highway in Colrain. Franklin County Regional Animal Management urges the general public to make sure your pets rabies vaccines are updated.
