RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — A brand new invoice signed by Gov. Ralph Northam on Tuesday will permit inmates to repay their money owed by way of group work.
The invoice — HB 277 — was sponsored by Del. Marcia Value whose districts embrace components of Hampton and Newport Information. The invoice permits inmates to do group work to earn credit score and repay high quality and court docket prices whereas they’re incarcerated.
Current regulation solely allowed offenders to earn credit score for work completed earlier than or after their incarceration, in keeping with a press launch from Northam’s workplace.
