Job applicant remanded for allegedly robbing with toy gun

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court docket on Friday remanded a 27-year-old job applicant, Jacob Odili, within the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, for allegedly robbing a person of N70,000 cellphone, with a toy gun.

The Chief Justice of the Peace, Mrs O.A. Aderibigbe, who gave the order, didn’t take the plea of the defendant.


She mentioned that Odili needs to be remanded pending recommendation from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Aderibigbe ordered the police to duplicate the case file and ship to the DPP for recommendation.

Odili, who resides at Igando, Lagos, was charged with theft and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Mojirade Edeme, informed the courtroom that the defendant dedicated the offences on Nov. 17, at Igando.

She mentioned the defendant used a toy gun to rob the complainant, Mr Adefehinti Adeyanju, of a cellphone.

He mentioned that the defendant accosted the complainant, pointed the gun at him, demanded for his cellphone and threatened to shoot him if he would refuse to conform.


“For worry of not being killed, the complainant rapidly surrendered his cellphone.

“However unknown to the defendant, the complainant knew him the place he was residing earlier than; so, he went there to report back to the neighborhood leaders.

“The defendant was ultimately arrested however had bought the cellphone,” Edeme mentioned.


The alleged offences violate Sections 287 and 296 of the Felony Regulation of Lagos State, 2015.

Part 287 gives for 3 years’ jail time period for stealing whereas Part 296 prescribes 21 years’ imprisonment for theft.

The case was adjourned till Jan. 17, for point out. (NAN)
