Dawson Jones not solely cruised to the title on the New Jersey Novice Golf Championship, he broke the report he set two years in the past.

The Monmouth County resident capped his wire-to-wire victory Friday morning on the weather-delayed 118th NJSGA Novice by setting the match report for lowest 72-hole rating relative to par: 15-under 273.

Jones, 21, accomplished his ultimate spherical at Three-under 69 at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Branchburg to complete six strokes forward of fellow Monmouth County resident Jack Wall and Vincent Kwon of Burlington County.

Jones is having fun with an impressive season since graduating from Rhode Island with a level in accounting. He gained the Metropolitan Golf Affiliation “Ike” Stroke Play Championship in June, and on Monday certified for the U.S. Novice.

“After a few weeks in the past of successful the Ike, I felt like I may very well be ready to win,” Jones stated. “There was much less stress on me after successful the Ike.”

Good golf after unhealthy climate

Thursday lightning prevented a dozen gamers from finishing their spherical and Jones completed his final 4 holes Friday morning at 1-under. He completed par, birdie, bogey, birdie to interrupt the report of 14-under he set in 2017 at Tavistock CC in Haddonfield.

Jones made a Three-footer for par on the 15th gap. He made a 12-footer for birdie on the 16th. On the 17th, he three-putted from 30 toes for bogey. On the 18th, a 550-yard par-5, he birdied by reaching the inexperienced in two and two-putting from 15 toes.

“It is a completely completely different feeling than successful at Tavistock,” stated Jones, who two years in the past rallied to win with a final-round, 7-under 65. “It enabled me to play aggressive and not attempt to make as many birdies.”

Who made the highest 5?

That is the second consecutive yr that Wall has completed second. Wall, 18, was paired with Jones within the ultimate twosome and closed with 70 for his 279. The Brielle resident and up to date Christian Brothers Academy graduate performed his final 4 holes at even-par: birdie, par, bogey, par.

Kwon catapulted right into a share of second place with the perfect ultimate spherical of this match: 67. He closed his bogey-free journey Friday with a birdie and par.

Kwon’s surge meant that Chris Gotterup of Monmouth County, who completed his spherical Thursday, dropped one spot to fourth. Gotterup, 19, a Little Silver resident and junior at Rutgers, had shot 68 for 280.

Rounding out the highest 5 was Troy Vannucci of Burlington County. Vannucci, 27, a Marlton resident, birdied the 18th on Friday to shut with 69 for 282.
