KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A Kansas Metropolis couple was charged Thursday in municipal courtroom with failing to adequately look after practically 270 small animals seized from their duplex earlier this week.
Mikabel Montero, 24, and Natasha Marie Acosta, 21, had been charged with three counts of animal cruelty alleging they supplied insufficient care and allowed an offensive odor to emanate from their duplex, The Kansas Metropolis Star reported.
The animals eliminated Monday from the two-bedroom duplex had been dwelling in “deplorable” circumstances, the Neighborhood and Housing Providers stated.
Montero stated Thursday he would combat the violation that stated he didn’t present sufficient water for the animals, contending he refilled their water two or thrice a day.
“I settle for what I’m responsible for or something that went mistaken right here,” Montero stated, noting he was cleansing his house within the hopes of buying again a few of his pets. “I simply had too many.”
Almost 220 of the virtually 270 taken in by the KC Pet Undertaking animal shelter had been rats. Different animals included geckos, rabbits, turtles, hamsters and guinea pigs, in addition to others.
Dozens of the animals have already been adopted, positioned right into a foster care program or picked up by animal rescue teams.
